If cities are engines of innovation, neighborhoods are their laboratories. Districts — larger than a building but smaller than a whole community — are ideal for testing sustainable urban development.
Recently, 47 city and neighborhood development leaders from eight US cities gathered in Portland, Ore., for the EcoDistricts Incubator, a three-day intensive workshop designed to accelerate the revitalization of North American cities from the neighborhood up.
