Prepare to advance the new standard for community development

The EcoDistricts Foundation Course is a day long training and workshop that covers the EcoDistricts Protocol and EcoDistricts Certified, a new standard for community development that puts equity, resilience and climate protection at the center of all decisions.

The course covers the EcoDistricts Protocol including commitments to imperatives in the areas of equity, resilience and climate protection; formation of a governance structure; development of a roadmap; and ongoing performance reporting. It outlines core requirements of EcoDistricts Certified. Case studies address lessons learned from early EcoDistricts projects and interactive working sessions allow attendees to apply EcoDistrict concepts to a hypothetical district. It also prepares attendees to become EcoDistricts Accredited Professionals.

Course learning objectives include:

  • Learn the EcoDistricts mission & approach
  • Understand the EcoDistricts Protocol
  • Know how to navigate the certification process
  • Be prepared to take the EcoDistricts AP exam

This course is for those engaged in neighborhood sustainability – architects, planners, public agencies, developers, community-based organizations, etc.

EcoDistricts Foundation Courses are currently offered online as well as in-person in cities throughout the U.S.

All course registrants receive a complimentary digital copy of the Certification Handbook following registration. We strongly encourage registrants to download and review the Protocol to prepare for the course.
