The Borough of Millvale, Pennsylvania’s PIVOT 2.0 Plan harnesses an ecodistrict planning model that builds community resiliency by mobilizing and connecting food, water and energy networks to achieve neighborhood goals.

The Borough of Millvale, Pennsylvania sits opposite the Allegheny River from Pittsburgh. Millvale suffered a loss of business and population as the steel industry declined in the region throughout the last half of the 20th century.

Over the past decade, Millvale officials have worked to rejuvenate the community in the face of economic adversity, flood events and environmental challenges. From 2012 to 2015, Millvale Borough and the Millvale Borough Development Corporation partnered with EvolveEA, a sustainable architecture and consulting firm in Pittsburgh, to hold intensive planning sessions with community leaders and residents.

The PIVOT 2.0 plan is a result of the most recent planning sessions, and it expands Millvale’s initial ecodistrict goals and strategies, incorporating Air Quality, Transportation and Equity into their plans along with updates to their existing Food, Water and Energy visions.
