Lead Stakeholder: Lloyd Enhanced Services District

Since 2011, the Lloyd EcoDistrict has operated as an ecodistrict; we have served as a convener, aggregator, champion, cheerleader, and educator primarily to the business community and property owners of the Lloyd District. The business community initiated the Lloyd EcoDistrict concept with the City of Portland. We knew we needed to start with the business community to develop credibility, trust, and a track record to show that this idea of scaling up for sustainability was a sound one. In the first five years, we launched a number of neighborhood-wide initiatives, including energy benchmarking which has led to 12 % energy use reduction, an LED retrofit program that also benefits affordable housing development, a pollinator corridor/ protected bikeway, an age-friendly business campaign, an intersection repair project with foster youth and elderly residents, Lights out Lloyd, a Bird Safe building initiative with Audubon society,  and an electric bike fleet pilot for businesses and residents. We are a small but growing organization, working closely with stakeholders and partners to develop replicable models of collaboration and partnership which we can refine, and more importantly that others can use as starting points in their own communities.
